PPJ Bylaws:

1. The name of the group
The group which implements the activities for the Peace Pledge Movement is called "Peace Pledge Japan" (PPJ).

2. Office
The office of PPJ is located in Tokyo.

3. Objective
PPJ was established to implement and coordinate the activities for the Peace Pledge Movement for scientists. The activities aim to enhance dialogue among scientists, arouse self-awareness and responsibility, and contribute to peace education.

4. Activities
To achieve the above objective, PPJ's activities covers the following.
-collecting the signatures on peace pledge
-holding meetings, workshops and symposiums to enhance the dialogue
-announcing plans and the progress of our activities
-offering information through the Internet.
-and any other related activities.

5. Members
The organization consists of pledged members, staff (including volunteers), supporting members, and the supporting organization.

6. Structure
The organization consists of the following parts.
1 Plenary session 2 Steering committee 3 Representative 4 Vice representative 5 Secretariat

7. Plenary session
- The plenary session should be called at least once a year. Extra sessions can be held if necessary at any time.
- The plenary session elects the committee members and approves the plan of activities and budgetary matters.
- Any matters must be agreed upon or approved by a majority of the session.
- The plenary and Extra sessions are called by committee members. Extra sessions can be held at the request of one third of the committee members.

8. Steering committee
- The steering committee consists of a representative, a vice representative and other coordinators. It is responsible for the coordination of activities. It also makes decisions on the management of the organization.
- Committee members must be pledged members.
- The number of committee members must not exceed 10. Their tenure is normally 2 years, but can be extended.
- Agreements can be made by a majority of the committee.
- The representative and the vice representative must be committee members.
- The committee is normally by the representatives.

9. Secretariat
The secretariat consists of accountants, Internet section, editorial staff and other voluntary staff.

10. Accounting
- The organization's activities are financed by fellowships of other organizations and other proceeds. Accountants must present the balance sheet at the end of the fiscal year, from April 1 to March 31.

11. Amendment
These agreements can be amended by the approval of two thirds of committee members.
